HEALTHY AT HOME

celebrating food ways from way back

In years past, one of our co-founders made home visits to help people connect with the wisdom handed down to them by their grandparents, aunts and uncles, and neighbors. She was called "the seed lady" by locals, because she followed the Avon pyramid scheme model... except all her seeds and knowledge were free.

When people wanted to pay her for her expertise, she told them, "Your payment will be a personal obligation into the future to save and share the seeds that your plants make, and teach others how to grow for their families too.

Her efforts gave way to the events below, and our Seed Families community offering. Events have taken a pause as we relocate headquarters, but you can still get involved with the formation of new packets showcasing your favorite plant relationships in the garden! Drop your faves in our Seed Families survey.

KC Health Initiative

Seed Families are small collections of easy-to-grow vegetables, herbs, and flowers that naturally protect and nourish one another. Each bundle of seeds and growing tips supports a household to create a kitchen garden that strengthens household nutrition while honoring the Earth’s wisdom. In partnership with KC Health Initiative, these bundles reconnect people to the healing rhythm of soil, food, and community care.
